The state government will be recognising and felicitating various personnel and organisations that have contributed significantly in the rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures being carried out in calamity-hit north Bengal.
Chief minister Mamata Banerjee is expected to return to the region on Monday, keeping her promise of going back to oversee measures for the affected people of north Bengal. She would felicitate persons of related departments for having rendered exceptional services in connection with the relief and rescue operations in the flood-ravaged districts.
A source at the state secretariat, Nabanna, said the chief minister would stick to her word, made before leaving Siliguri yesterday. “She is most likely to leave on Monday to monitor the progress of relief, rescue, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in areas of flood-ravaged north Bengal,” the source said.
The chief minister would first visit Darjeeling, from where she is likely to go to Mirik to take stock of relief and reconstruction work there.
On a different flood-related issue, it was learnt that Trinamul Congress supporters would carry out gherao of dam offices like Panchet and Mython on 11 October in protest against frequent discharge of waters by the DVC without keeping the state government informed.
