  • Trinamul Congress (TMC) has demanded immediate arrest of the BJP leaders involved in vandalising its party office in Tripura after 48 hours have passed since the incident took place.

Trinamul Congress leaders, camping in Tripura, submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor. Though the Governor had given an appointment to the five-member delegation, he could not meet them as he had to leave for Delhi in the morning. In his absence the memorandum was submitted to the secretary to the Governor.

The delegation is scheduled to return to Kolkata on Thursday.

The delegation in Tripura includes Kunal Ghosh, Pratima Mondol, Sayoni Ghosh, Susmita Dev, Birbaha Hansda and Sudip Raha.

Later, talking to the Press, Mr Ghosh said they had demanded immediate arrest of the BJP leaders, who were seen vandalising TMC party office. “This is unacceptable. They should be brought to book and stringent action should be taken against them. There is an attempt to gag the voice of democracy. In Bengal, any leader from any party can move freely. But in Tripura it is just the opposite. First, we were cordoned off at the airport for two hours. Second, the FIR-named accused have not been arrested yet,” Mr Ghosh said.

He said Trinamul Congress has also given in detail the attack on the car of party’s national general secretary Abhishiek Banerjee in 2024 but no action was taken against the culprits. He demanded that the administration should give protection to the leaders and workers in Tripura.

Earlier, the director general of police had assured to take action against the persons involved in the attack on the party office. But no action has yet been taken.

Mr Ghosh said the party is keeping a tab on the situation and further action will be taken accordingly.

TMC has officially submitted a police complaint in connection with the vandalism that was unleashed in our Agartala Party office by BJP leaders.

During a meeting with police, TMC leader Sudip Raha raised the issue of how Bengal Police arrested four persons in connection with the Nagrakata attack in north Bengal.

Meanwhile, it’s been more than four years since the attack on Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy during his Tripura visit in the past but the Police have not yet made any arrests in connection with the attack.

TMC MP Sushmita Dev highlighted how BJP Tripura spokesperson in the Press conference openly admitted that they were involved in damaging TMC posters and banners at Agartala party office of the TMC.
