Three out of seven injured migrant workers from Murshidabad district in West Bengal died in Bengaluru on Friday. The four others who had sustained severe burn injuries are undergoing treatment in a city hospital in the IT city.
According to the Murshidabad district administration sources, seven migrant workers Minarul Sheikh (35), Ziabur Sheikh (35), Hasan Mondal (42), Tazibur Sheikh (31), Noorzamal Sheikh (20), Shafizul Sheikh (34) and Zahid Ali (32) sustained burn injuries on Monday when a fire broke out inside a room where they were sleeping.
Zahid lives in the Hariharpara area in Murshidabad while the six others hail from Berhampore in the district.
The deceased are Zahid Ali, Minarul Sheikh and Tazibur Sheikh. The condition of the four injured are stated to be critical.
According to the administrative sources, a local labour contractor Hasan Mondal had taken an army of migrant workers from Murshidabad to Birdi in Bengaluru for construction work of a multi-storied building there about one month ago.
They used to stay inside a makeshift room beside the project site. A huge fire broke out there in the room on Monday night when all the seven workers were asleep.
All of them suffered severe burn injuries and could not rush out of the room after the fire engulfed the small room within a few minutes because they were in deep sleep.
