  • NEW DELHI: Atleast eight people were injured at Bardhaman railway station on Sunday evening after a woman lost her balance and fell down the stairs of a footoverbridge, according to news agency ANI.

    The incident occurred around 5.30 pm between platforms 4 and 5.

    The injured include five women and three men, all of whom were admitted to Bardhaman Medical College for treatment.

    Divisional railway manager Vishal Kapoor explained, “Around 5.30 pm, when a lady was coming down at the platform numbers 4 and 5, she lost her balance and after the woman fell, her weight impacted other passengers sitting on the footoverbridge stairs, causing them to lose their balance and fall.

    Eight people got injured. Railways is extending all support to the injured.”

    Railways clarified that there was no stampede and the crowd remained normal. The Railway Protection Force and staff attended to the injured immediately.

    “Railway doctors were also present. The three injured have been sent to Bardhaman Medical College for treatment,” the statement said.
