The District National Congress organised a Bijoya Sammelani at Sheoraphuli. The event was attended by the State Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Pritam Ghosh, District Congress President-1 Subrata Mukherjee, and all block-level Congress leaders.
Mr Ghosh, who is also a member of the All India Congress Committee, said a signature campaign is being carried out as a protest against the anti-constitutional policies and activities of the Modi-led BJP government, and against the Election Commission for preparing flawed voter lists favouring the ruling party.
“We have supporting documents proving that the voter lists prepared in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Madavpura were faulty. The anti-constitutional policies of the Modi-led BJP are depriving ordinary citizens of their rights. The issues of corruption and anti-people policies have reached a peak. When we raise the slogan ‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chor’, people, without naming any party, immediately associate it with the BJP,” he added.
Mr Ghosh further stated that most of the beneficiary schemes and projects currently aiding the public were initiated by the Congress party when in power. “The present BJP government has merely renamed existing schemes launched by previous Congress administrations. Programmes such as Indira Awas Yojana, Sarva Shiksha Mission, Swachh Bharat, and the 100 Days Work Scheme were originally launched by leaders including Indira Gandhi, P.V. Narasimha Rao, Rajiv Gandhi, and Dr Manmohan Singh. We urge the Election Commission to strictly adhere to the Indian Constitution and ensure that citizens are not deprived of their constitutional rights. Not a single genuine voter should be removed or deleted. We demand accurate and impartial voter lists.”
