  • Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamul Congress national general secretary urged party workers to put up a united fight against the BJP and ensure victory of the candidates in 2026 Assembly election.

He was addressing a gathering to observe the Bijoya Sammelani in Diamond Harbour this afternoon.

Leaders and people from all the seven segments that fall under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat took part in the meeting. The seven segments are Diamond Harbour, Falta, Bishnupur, Satgachia, Budge Budge, Maheshtala and Metiabruz.

He reiterated that the BJP will not get more than 50 seats in the Assembly election. “The BJP has systematically and deliberately neglected Bengal and financially deprived the state. The state government has cleared the dues of the workers under MGNREGA. The state government gave money to set up rural houses. Under Jal Shakti Mission, money was not given. The people have seen this and it will be reflected in the ballot box,” he said.

He reiterated that Trinamul Congress will not spare the Election Commission of India if the name of a genuine voter is deleted. “If there is SIR it should be held across the country. Why it is being held only in those states where election is in the offing. SIR is being conducted to help the BJP to win the election,” he said.

Mr Banerjee urged the party workers to make people aware of the centre’s financial deprivation. “There is no place for complacency and work hard to ensure victory of the candidates,” he maintained.

Mr Banerjee nurtures the constituency throughout the year. The health initiative which was launched early this year in all the Assembly segments was a great success. Mr Banerjee has called the development of Diamond Harbour and its neighbourhood as “Diamond Harbour model.”

Bijoya Samelani was held in 39 places today across the state. The districts where the meetings were held included South Dinajpur, Murshidabad, Bankura, Jhargram, South 24-Parganas, West Burdwan, Cooch Behar, East Burdwan, North 24-Parganas, Purulia, Hooghly, West Medinipur and Birbhum.

The leaders organising the Bijoya Sammelanis have to submit a detailed report to the party’s central leadership. It was Mr Banerjee, who took the initiative to hold Bijoya Sammelani in every area in a bid to build intense contact with people before the 2026 Assembly election.
