• ADPC CP assures full support to Durgapur rape victim’s family

  • Commissioner of Police (CP) of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC), Sunil Kumar Choudhury, at a press conference in Durgapur late last evening, said that the ADPC is fully prepared to provide all possible support and security to the family of the second-year MBBS student from Odisha.

    Expressing satisfaction over the swift action of the police, he stated that all five accused in the gang-rape case had been arrested by New Township police station within 48 hours of the incident. He added that the police are collecting all necessary evidence to ensure a speedy trial.

    “We have already shared the contact numbers of all senior officers of the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate with the victim’s family. Adequate police protection has also been provided outside the private medical college hospital where the victim is currently admitted,” CP Sunil Choudhury said.

    He further stated that the investigation is progressing in the right direction and that all the culprits will be brought to justice as per the law. Security across Durgapur has also been tightened following the incident, he added.

    “Since receiving the complaint, the police have been in constant touch with the family and have already extended all possible assistance, including providing protection to her parents,” he said.

    Sources informed that CP Choudhury has been personally supervising the investigation from the outset and has been regularly briefing the state DGP, Rajeev Kumar, on developments.

    Incidentally, sub-inspector Nasreen Sultana of New Township police station (NTPS) is a decorated officer and the first woman officer-in-charge of any police station under the Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate. She has already been awarded a police medal for her service.

    Meanwhile, the victim’s father has stated that he intends to take his daughter back to Odisha for treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, citing security concerns.
