Kolkata: Mayor Firhad Hakim on Wednesday expressed worries over the delay in the construction of an underground water reservoir and booster pumping station at Marcus Square near College Street market.
This delay is due to resistance by a section of residents, fuelled by political intervention. Hakim has assured that he will visit the spot after Diwali and ensure that construction begins at the earliest.
KMC was supposed to take up construction of the reservoir and pumping station as an alternative to the underground reservoir at Md Ali Park.
KMC wants to speed up the construction process anticipating deterioration in the condition of the reservoir at Md Ali Park. According to plans, the pumping station will be able to supply 4 million gallons of treated water to vast stretches of central Kolkata. "We need to wrap up construction in two years," a civic official said.
