Kolkata: A sergeant from Beliaghata Traffic Guard sustained severe injuries on Tuesday evening after being deliberately hit by a biker, who was trying to flee from him at Phoolbagan on the CIT Road.
According to police, sergeant Suvrokanti Banerjee was on duty when he attempted to stop 22-year-old Sanjay Rabi Das, a helmetless motorcyclist.
Sergeant Rajdeep Das arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and found his colleague injured. Banerjee was immediately taken to Bakshi Orthopedic Hospital, where it was confirmed that he suffered multiple fractures.
Local residents and a police officer on duty immediately chased Das on bikes and managed to apprehend the motorcyclist, who was then handed over to the Phoolbagan Police.
Das was produced in court and sent to judicial custody till Oct18.
In a separate incident, another case of
was reported near the Bengal Chemical bus stop area. A biker and his co-passenger allegedly assaulted a fellow motorist after a minor collision. The victim, identified as Golam Sarwar, reported that he was stationary at a traffic signal when another biker hit his vehicle from behind. Upon confronting the biker, Sarwar was allegedly punched in the face and head, resulting in cuts and swelling.
Sarwar, who suspects the biker was under the influence of alcohol, received first aid at a nearby hospital. Probe into both the matter is underway.
