Quick thinking by residents and prompt action by the Kolkata Police led to the arrest of three individuals allegedly involved in a high-profile murder case in Rajasthan. The arrests were made in the Phoolbagan area on Thursday evening.

The incident unfolded when residents on Narkeldanga Main Road noticed three persons, seemingly “from outside the state”, moving around “suspiciously”. Concerns grew when one of them was allegedly seen attempting to climb down from the cornice of a residential building. Suspecting foul play, residents immediately alerted Phoolbagan Police Station.

A patrolling team soon reached the spot and began questioning the trio. The suspects initially offered what police described as a “frivolous story” to explain their presence, which officials said was quickly found to be false.

“As we approached, the accused attempted to flee, leading to a brief ‘cat-and-mouse’ chase before the police successfully detained all three,” said a police official.

A detailed examination allegedly revealed that the detained men were wanted in connection with a recent murder in Rajasthan. “The detained persons are reportedly wanted in a murder case registered at Kuchaman Police Station, Didwana district, Rajasthan,” the official added.

Phoolbagan Police then contacted the Station House Officer (SHO) of Kuchaman Police Station, who confirmed their alleged involvement in the case. The three arrested have been identified as Ganpat Gurjar, Mahesh Gurjar, and Dharmendra Gurjar.

The murder in question occurred on Tuesday morning in Kuchaman, Rajasthan, where 40-year-old Ramesh Rulania, who owned a bike showroom and a hotel, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman while exercising at a gym on Station Road, sparking panic in the area. The Rajasthan government had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of the culprits.

The three detained men are currently in custody at Phoolbagan Police Station and will be handed over to the Rajasthan Police for further investigation. A team from Rajasthan is expected to arrive in Kolkata on October 17.
