Mystery shrouds over the death of a female doctor of the Contai Sub-Divisional Hospital in East Midnapore district on Friday. Police have started investigations.
According to police sources, Dr Salini Das, a resident of Dum Dum in Kolkata, along with her mother used to stay in a rented house close to the district magistrate office in Tamluk town. She was transferred to the sub-divisional hospital recently from the state-run Tamluk Medical College Hospital where she worked as an anaesthetist for two years.
Locals said that Salini was attached to several private hospitals and nursing homes in Tamluk and adjoining areas besides her attachment with government healthcare facilities.
On Friday morning, she attended to patients at a nursing home at Mahishadal and then another private healthcare facility in Tamluk. She came back to her rented house around 11 a.m. the same day with an IV fluid channel fixed on her one hand.
Interestingly, no IV fluid channel was there on her hand when she left the house for the nursing home on Friday morning.
She fell seriously ill with bleeding from the portion of her hand where the saline channel was done on Friday. She was rushed to a private hospital and then shifted to the teaching hospital after her condition deteriorated drastically. She died there later in the evening on Friday.
Her body has been sent to the police morgue for post-mortem examination.
The incident has raised eyebrows of local residents and her colleagues at the sub-divisional hospital.
Investigating officials of Tamluk police station are exploring the mystery behind the IV fluid channel made on the deceased’s hand reportedly deteriorating her health condition.
