• Sukanta warns party workers of TMC ‘trap’

  • BJP leader and Union Minister Mr Sukanta Mazumdar attended a party conference in Baidyabati on Saturday. He warned district BJP leaders and workers not to fall into the “provocation trap” allegedly laid by the TMC and said damaging public property and violence cannot be justified as political protest.

Mr Mazumdar accused Serampore MP and other TMC leaders of making provocative statements intended to mislead the BJP towards violence. He added: “For personal safety and self-defence we may need a danda (stick).”

Referring to the conduct of elections in West Bengal, he said that the matter concerned the Election Commission of India and that the BJP had nothing to do with it. He insisted that illegal persons and fake voters must be removed.

Mr Mazumdar also appealed to the minority community not to be drawn into what he described as the “dirty and mean politics of the TMC”, and urged them not to be provoked by distorted information released by the ruling party, which he said could harm communal harmony.
