8 arrested for dealing in fake number plates
The Statesman | 20 October 2025The incident came to light when a traffic sergeant on duty at Kasba detained a scooter for allegedly violating traffic rules. During verification of the vehicle’s documents, it was discovered that the scooter’s number plate was fake, as another vehicle bearing the same registration number was traced. According to Lalbazar sources, the legitimate owner of that vehicle had already lodged a complaint, stating that his vehicle had no connection with the Kasba incident and that he was not present at the location at the time.
As suspicion grew, the traffic sergeant informed Kasba police station, prompting the launch of a formal investigation.
Following inquiry, police arrested one person from Dhakuria, identified as Mangal Naskar. Based on his interrogation, another accused was subsequently taken into custody.
