The West Bengal Police has warned people spreading misinformation on Kakdwip temple, that its Kali idol has been damaged on Wednesday morning. The ‘misinformation’ led to a public outcry and protests on national highway.
The state police have warned of stern action against mischief mongers. The police wrote on its X handle: “Efforts are being made from certain quarters to spread misinformation about an incident in Kakdwip. Facts are: an idol of Goddess Kali in a village temple under Suryanagar GP was found to be damaged this morning. Efforts are on to identify the person/ persons behind the mischief. Stern action will be taken against those responsible for the incident.
“The locals had blocked the national highway over the issue along with the damaged idol and refused to go ahead with the immersion. Police pursuaded with the agitators for hours to withdraw the blockade, which was causing serious public invonvenience with ambulances carrying patients also being stuck. When the agitators did not relent and started pelting stones at the police, minimum force was resorted to by the police to disperse the mob. The immersion of the idol was facilitated thereafter.”
Meanwhile, the ruling Trinamul Congress today came out with a clarification on the controversy surrounding crowd management at Boro Ma Kali temple in Naihati on Tuesday. There have been reports that the many visitors at the temple had to face inconvenience due to some VVIP visits on Tuesday.
The TMC X handle mentioned: “At the temple of Boro Maa in Naihati, lakhs of devotees are visiting the temple daily for darshan in a peaceful and orderly manner. The crowd management and circulation plan have been designed in such a way that even during peak hours, the movement of devotees remains smooth and regulated, ensuring there is no congestion or discomfort to anyone.
“A television channel has telecasted a report, alleging that devotees were inconvenienced during the visit of VIPs at the temple of Boro Maa. The report is entirely unfounded and misleading. It appears that some visuals have been selectively used to create a distorted impression, which is unfortunate and contrary to the facts on the ground. Legal action will be initiated against those spreading misinformation.”
