In a bid to cater to the surge in passenger count during Chhath Puja, the Eastern and South Eastern Railways have made elaborate arrangements for the festive season crowd management.
The Eastern Railway is dealing with more than 1,300 trips of special trains to cater to the need of passengers moving from one place to another during Diwali and Chhath and also in the entire festive season this year. The ER is operating 332 trips of Puja Special trains from Howrah, Sealdah, Kolkata, Asansol, Malda, Bhagalpur and so on to different destinations all over India while 662 trips of special trains from other zonal railways are also terminating and originating in the Eastern Railway jurisdiction.
Apart from this, 320 trips of special trains from other zonal railways are also passing through Eastern Railway network, catering to passengers of en route stations. To facilitate movement of passengers to their desired destination for enjoying the Chhath, Eastern Railway has arranged a total of 176 trips of special trains during 21 to 27 October to cater to all popular destinations. To meet the demand of passengers at Raxaul, Madhubani, Jaynagar, Barauni Jn, Patna, Buxar, Saharsa Jn, Purnia Court, Gorakhpur, Mau, Barhni, Banaras area, the zonal railway is operating 108 trips. To cater to the surge in passengers at Anand Vihar Terminal, Delhi, New Delhi, Yog Nagari Rishikesh, Lal Kuan Jn, Kanpur Central, Lucknow, Khatipura, Vadodara Jn, Udhna Jn, Gandhidham Jn area, the ER is running 68 trips. Apart from this, a good number of trips of Unreserved Special Trains from Eastern Railway have been planned to cater the Chhath rush. These Unreserved Special Trains include 3045/ 3046 Howrah – Raxaul – Howrah Unreserved Special, 3185/ 3186 Kolkata – Madhubani – Kolkata , 3133/ 3134 Kolkata – Gorakhpur – Kolkata 3529/ 3530 Asansol – Gorakhpur – Asansol Unreserved Special, leaving Asansol and so on.
Like the Eastern Railway, the South Eastern Railway has taken host of measures for crowd management. Till 20 October, the SER operated 922 special trains in the current year, as compared to 832 runs last year. War rooms are functional at South Eastern Railway headquarters and all the four divisional Headquarters for CCTV monitoring through live feed and immediate solving of complaints/ grievances/ problems of passengers.
The SER is operating six regular special trains and 11 additional festival specials. 16 specials run by other zonal railways are also being run over SER jurisdiction now.
