Bhim Charan Barik, a 45-year-old resident of Birulia, Nandigram-II block, devoted years of his life working as a mason in Kerala to support his family. A tragic workplace accident claimed his life, leaving his loved ones grappling with unimaginable hardship, even to bring him home.
Today, his mortal remains returned to Nandigram. Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee came to the rescue of the family, ensuring that the body was received with dignity in Bengal.
Bhim Charan had been working in Kerala for many years as a labourer. While working there, he accidentally fell and was admitted to the hospital, where he remained for three days before passing away.
His body arrived today at Dum Dum airport and TMC spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya received the body and travelled all the way to Nandigram. Debangshu said: “The family of the deceased is distraught with the death. The deceased’s old mother and his family have lost the only earning member and are at a loss. The party has rendered all help to the family as they are very poor and Mr Banerjee has been in constant touch with me on this.”
The Trinamul Congress slammed the LoP Suvendu Adhikari and BJP for abandoning the family belonging to his constituency in tough times.
The TMC wrote on X: “Bhim Charan Barik, a 45-year-old resident of Birulia, Nandigram, worked in Kerala for several years as a mason to support his family. A tragic accident at his workplace claimed his life, leaving behind a family struggling even to bring his body home.
“Despite being a resident of Nandigram, a constituency represented by @BJP4India’s Bengal LoP @SuvenduWB, neither he nor his party offered any assistance or showed concern. The family’s pleas went unheard. Our leaders, including Pingla MLA, Shri Ajit Maity, are also present, extending full support to the bereaved family…”
