Sandip Karra appointed new SP of Cooch Behar
The Statesman | 25 October 2025He will replace, Dyutiman Bhattacharya, senior IPS officer, superintendent of police of Cooch Behar, who beat up some local people outside his bungalow for bursting firecrackers repeatedly for a long period resulting in distress of his pet dogs on the night of Kali Puja.
He has been posted as CO of the third battalion of State Armed Police (SAP). LoP of West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari has also posted in his X handle about this incident and sought justice. The SP of Cooch Behar had denied the allegations, despite the locals claiming that five children were hurt due to the police lathicharge on that day.
The CCTV footage of the bungalow has also been scanned.
Meanwhile, Sonwane Kuldeep Suresh, SS (intelligence branch) of West Bengal has been appointed as the new DCP (West) of Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) in place of Sandip Karra.
The state home department has described it as a routine transfer.
