• TMC blames BJP for attack on Australian women crickets

  • The incident of two Australian women cricketers, taking part in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, being allegedly stalked and molested in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore has been widely criticised by the Trinamul Congress. The incident, which occurred on Thursday but revealed today by the police, has drawn widespread condemnation.

The TMC has posted on X its reaction. It wrote: “Two cricketers from the Australian Women’s team were molested on the streets of Indore — in @BJP4India-ruled Madhya Pradesh. Think about what that says about our nation today.

“Our guests, International athletes — walking to a café in broad daylight, were forced to send an SOS out of fear, in a state that calls itself the “Heart of India.” Is this the image of India we want the world to see?

“A nation that once greeted every guest with Atithi Devo Bhava is now making global headlines for crimes against women — both citizens and visitors alike.

You cannot preach Nari Shakti while women, Indian or foreign, are unsafe under your watch. Silence is not strength — it is surrender. And we refuse to surrender our idea of India. @narendramodi must speak. @BJP4India must answer. @NCWIndia must act.”

Trinamul Congress leader Arup Chakraborty also took to his X handle to criticise the shameful incident. He wrote in Bengali, which read: “It’s on a different level. International level rapists are now in states run by double-engine governments. The Australian women’s players came to India to play the World Cup and were molested in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, ruled by the BJP. We hang our heads in shame in front of the world. So, what should be the slogan now? “Beti bachao BJP se.”
