• Second in two months: Hoodlums terrorise woman, her family, friends at Bypass nightclub for 90 minutes

  • Kolkata: In a near repeat of last month's brawl at a premium weekend club inside Hyatt Regency off EM Bypass, a homemaker, partying with her husband, brother and friends there, was allegedly molested, assaulted and attacked with beer bottles following a brawl early on Sunday.

The family stayed hidden inside a liquor room at the club for over 30 minutes before police rescued them.

Among those mentioned in the FIR were Naser Khan, a businessman convicted in the Park Street gang rape, who was released after completing his prison term in 2020, and his nephew, Junaid Khan. Naser claimed to TOI he was not at the scene of the crime but Junaid confirmed Naser's presence and confessed to his uncle's bouncer pushing complainants.

Police said they received a complaint but none had been arrested till Monday. "We have sought the night's CCTV footage," said a Bidhannagar commissionerate officer. "We are checking if the Naser Khan mentioned in the FIR is the same one involved in the Park Street crime and if so, his exact role in this incident."

According to the woman, the brawl broke out at Playboy Club around 4.15 am and the ordeal continued for 90 minutes.

"We were at our table, when a few people started fighting with us. Junaid, Naser Khan and their group assaulted and tried to sexually abuse me," the woman wrote in her statement.

The complainant alleged when her brother stepped in, the accused hurled a glass bottle at him. "We tried to run away from the hotel but Junaid called around 20 more people, who attacked us," the complaint stated. She alleged despite dialling 100, the group blocked the exits.

"Some boys started pushing and touching me inappropriately. We hid inside a liquor room at the club and bolted the door from inside even as we dialled 100.

We stayed hidden there for over half-an-hour until police rescued us," she said.

But Junaid told TOI a "trivial case of friendly pushing" was being blown out of proportion. "The allegations are fake and misleading. A friend of the complainant was vindictive towards me and lodged fabricated complaints.

It was a small fight, I never laid a hand on any woman. Police should check the CCTV footage. I have lodged a complaint against them," he said.

Last month, a class-XII student suffered eye injuries when he was hit by beer bottles during a brawl at the same club. Acknowledging the repeat of such incidents, club officials said they were increasing the number of bouncers from 14 to 20. "It's sad that such incidents keep on happening here. We are a global brand and have a certain standard. But even then, such brawls have been happening. These men were around the same table when they started fighting.

We urged Bidhannagar South PS to increase patrolling after 3 am. We are increasing the number of bouncers," said a senior Playboy club official.
