• Dead, fake voters in Bengal, revision must: Suvendu

  • Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari today raised serious allegations about irregularities in the state’s electoral rolls, claiming that the lists contain a large number of dead and fake voters ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists. Speaking at the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Press conference today, Adhikari urged the poll panel to ensure that the electoral rolls are “prepared correctly and transparently.”

“There are many dead and fake voters in West Bengal. There are double and triple entries. Even Bangladeshi Muslim infiltrators are there. All of them must be removed,” Adhikari told reporters. The BJP leader also referred to Bhowanipore, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s constituency, calling it a “BJP seat.” He claimed that in the 2014 general elections, the BJP held a lead in the area, and in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the party led in five out of eight wards. “Out of 267, the BJP led in 142 and the Trinamul Congress in 125. The BJP’s lotus will bloom here again,” he said.

Adhikari further asserted that the BJP had already proven its strength in Nandigram, where it defeated the Trinamul Congress in the 2021 Assembly polls. “Just as we defeated them in Nandigram, we will also win Bhowanipore,” he added. Accusing the ruling dispensation of lawlessness, Adhikari alleged that “nobody is safe in Bengal — not even the Governor, the central ministers, or journalists.” He compared the situation in the state to “a jungle raj.”

The Commission is also reviewing the rationalisation of polling stations to ensure that no booth has more than 1,200 electors.
