Kolkata: The woman from Tiljala, who was reportedly molested and assaulted by a group of hoodlums at a Playboy Club inside Hyatt Regency on Saturday, has since not returned home. Scared for her safety, she has been staying at a friend's place even as she has been receiving threat calls, telling her to withdraw the FIR she lodged at the Bidhannagar South PS.
Her family and friends were also attacked, one of them with a beer bottle. The woman and her group hid inside a liquor room at the club for 30 minutes till police rescued them. The woman mentioned businessman Naser Khan, convicted in the 2012 Park Street gang rape case and released in 2020 after serving his sentence, and his nephew, Junaid Khan, in the FIR, saying they instigated the altercation. A friend of the woman said, "She knows the attackers personally, she is scared. She is staying at a friend's place. But she is getting threat calls, telling her to withdraw the FIR. We trust the cop probe but don't yet feel safe returning home."
Police have summoned Naser and Junaid to Bidhannagar South PS. "We have collected CCTV footage. We are checking everyone's roles," said Mukesh Kumar, Bidhannagar City Police commissioner. "Notices have been served on those named in the complaint, questioning will follow."
Police have directed the club's operators, along with other bars and nightclubs in their area, to strengthen security and coordinate with local police stations.
"We, too, will intensify patrols," an officer said.
But Naser denied any wrongdoing. "My only fault was I was at the club that night. The CCTV footage will show I wasn't drinking or fighting, I was trying to separate the groups," he said on Tuesday. A day earlier, he had claimed he was at home when the brawl took place.
