Two brothers drown in Bhagirathi
The Statesman | 30 October 2025Shivam suddenly slipped into the deep water while bathing, and Sujan tried to rescue him, but he too drowned before others could come to their help. The brothers were performing Chhath Puja rituals with their father and uncle when the mishap occurred. Locals complained that the Ghat’s infrastructure and maintenance needed to be improved but repeated complaints had gone unheeded by the administration over the years.
A police team and disaster management personnel arrived and began search operations with divers in the river, but the bodies are yet to be recovered.
