The body of a missing tribal girl was fished out of an irrigation canal in Memari near here on Tuesday morning. Neela Murmu (14) of Chhinui village in Memari had taken cattle to the outskirts of the village for grazing on Monday at 11 am, but didn’t return home by evening.
Some villagers found the girl’s body floating in the canal and informed the police. The officials of Memari Police Station recovered the body and sent it to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. The family members suspect Neela might have accidentally fallen into the canal and failed to swim against the current, leading to her drowning.
