Sunali, Sweety relatives move contempt plea in Calcutta HC

Kolkata: Sunali Khatun and Sweety Bibi's family members filed a contempt of court petition before the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday, reasoning that the govt failed to bring back the six migrant labourers who were pushed to Bangladesh despite the HC's Sept 26 order.
The matter will be heard before the division bench of justices Tapabrata Chakraborty and Reetobroto Kumar Mitra on Nov 6.
This development comes at a time when Centre moved the Supreme Court on Oct 22, challenging the HC's order to bring back eight-month pregnant Sunali Khatun and five other migrant labourers from Bangladesh within four weeks. The Supreme Court has not granted any stay to date on the HC order.
The deadline ended on Oct 24. Sunali is in a Bangladesh jail along with her minor son and husband, Danish Sheikh, while Sweety Bibi is there with her two minor sons.
Junking the Delhi FRRO's order of deportation for the six migrant labourers from Birbhum, the division bench questioned the haste in which all six were deported to Bangladesh by an order dated June 26. They were picked up by Delhi police on June 21.
