Just four days after a migrant labourer from Birbhum, employed in Chennai, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the family of another migrant worker has reported him missing.
Debashish Bagdi (35), a resident of Sarama village under Borjora Police Station in Bankura district, had been working in Chennai when he reportedly went missing. His family disclosed the news today.
Although originally from Sarama, Bagdi had been residing at his in-laws’ home in Shibpur village under Kanksa Police Station, within the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate, for the past 13 years.
In August, he travelled to the Ipotangala area of Chennai to work under a contractor, along with several others. However, since his arrival, the family has lost all contact with him.
“He left his voter ID and Aadhaar card at home and has not been heard from since. We are living in fear and have no idea what has happened to him in Chennai,” said Badal Bagdi, his brother-in-law.
Tapas Lohar, a fellow migrant worker, stated that they had gone to sleep together one night, but the next morning Debashish was missing. After informing the contractor, a missing person report was filed at the local police station.
The family has appealed to the district administration and local police authorities for assistance in locating him.
