• Contractor dies after fall while fixing window at private medical college hospital

  • Pratap Roy (38), a contractor, died today after falling from the rooftop of a private medical college hospital building in Rajbandh, under the jurisdiction of Kanksha Police Station.

    A resident of Shyampur Colony in Durgapur, Mr Roy was fixing glass panes in a window when the accident occurred at around 4.30 p.m. Mrinal Kanti Samaddar said that the victim’s family rushed to the site upon receiving the news and have demanded compensation and employment for the next of kin.

    Rajesh Konar, member of the INTTUC Durgapur Core Committee, stated that the TMC trade union stands with the bereaved family. He added that members are heading to the hospital and will advocate for compensation, improved safety measures for contract workers, and related concerns.

    No official statement has yet been issued by the medical college hospital regarding the incident.
