Misrepresentation of Nivedita’s vision must stop: Mitra
Times of India | 31 October 2025
Kolkata: Amit Mitra, principal chief adviser to CM Mamata Banerjee, in an X post on Thursday wrote misappropriation and distortion of the religio-spiritual vision of icons like
,
and Nivedita must stop.
"Sister Nivedita's powerful words, penned 122 years ago, demolish today's narrative of those who thrive on hate and divisive politics," he wrote. He then went on to quote Nivedita: "India must be observed by this great conception (‘Nationality'). Hindu and Mohammedan must become one in it with passionate admiration for each other. It means new views of history, of custom, and it means the assimilation of the whole of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda idea in religion — the synthesis of all religious ideas.
"
In his X post, Mitra said the CM had written at length on Sister Nivedita on her birth anniversary on Oct 28 on the actions taken by the Bengal govt to rekindle and elevate the legacy of the great disciple of Swamy Vivekananda.
"The divisive force (BJP) should be warned that their trajectory of (mis-) appropriation and distortion of the religio-spiritual vision of such icons like Ramakrishna, Vivekananda and Nivedita must stop and truth be told, as evinced by Sister Nivedita's clinching words above," he wrote.
The state govt restored the home of Sister Nivedita at Bagbazar a few years ago.
