  • Kolkata: The accused in the Bijoygarh shooting, Ravi Bhardwaj, who fired one shot at his former girlfriend's house on Oct 27, was arrested by a Jadavpur police team from Patna in Bihar on Thursday.

Bhardwaj, was on the run ever since the incident, fleeing to Bihar immediately after the shooting. No one was hit by the bullet but the incident traumatized the victim.

According to polices, Bhardwaj is a resident of Bihar but was living in Bengaluru, where he ran an event management firm. He met the woman from Bijoygarh at Bengaluru where she had shifted for work. They developed a close relationship, but the woman later discovered that Bhardwaj was already married.

Allegedly, he concealed his marital status. After learning this, the woman ended the relationship.

Even after the relationship ended, he continued to harass the woman. He was once jailed for attacking her in Bengaluru, which led to the woman sustaining head injuries and receiving 32 stitches.

During the investigation, police found Bhardwaj was in Kolkata since Oct 20. "The man reached Kolkata and booked an app-bike. The rider said that Bhardwaj toured Bijoygarh extensively and noted bylanes where there were no CCTV camera coverage. He also befriended a local shopkeeper and asked for help in finding accommodation. Accordingly, a broker arranged a place for him and he informed the landlord that he would be staying in Kolkata for a month and provided his Aadhaar card details.

While fleeing after the shooting, a camera captured his image. Investigators found out that he went to Howrah station and since Oct 28, his phone's tower location indicated a place near Patna," said an officer.
