  • Durga Puja clubs in the city would have to mandatorily put up stickers with their names on advertisement hoardings from next year.

The decision comes after advertisement hoardings were reportedly still up despite orders from the mayor for its removal at the earliest. According to mayor Firhad Hakim, puja committees were allowed to put up hoardings for free during Durga Puja.

“However, many advertising agencies misuse this and put up hoarding according to their will,” claimed the mayor. “From next year, the clubs would have to demarcate the space, their hoardings would be put up. We would not charge any money for this. Also, banners and hoarding would have the names of the respective clubs at the bottom. A sticker with the name of the club would be put up on the hoardings. This would prevent confusion among the clubs as to which hoarding belongs to whom,” he added.

Meanwhile, the civic body has given three months time to 30 rooftop restaurants to comply with the norms. In the next step the Kolkata Municipal Corporation is to issue a letter to those rooftop restaurants asking them to comply with the norms given in the affidavit. Later, the KMC and the state fire and emergency services department would jointly conduct inspections to take note of the status of compliance of norms by the rooftop restaurants.
