The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya today celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Iron Man of India. The event aimed to honour his legacy and promote environmental awareness through a tree plantation drive as a step towards healing the planet from the growing threat of global warming.
As a mark of respect to the great freedom fighter and architect of Indian unity, around 20 enthusiastic volunteers, under the guidance of a teacher, planted five coconut saplings on the college premises.
The event highlighted the symbolic connection between Patel’s role as the unifier of India and the collective responsibility of today’s youth to unite in their efforts to preserve nature. The act of planting trees was seen as a fitting ecological remedy for global warming — inspired by the ideals of national service and selfless dedication that Patel embodied.
The programme successfully integrated the values of patriotism, environmental responsibility, and community participation, truly reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.
