Kolkata/Howrah: Vidyasagar Setuwill be closed for nine hours on Sunday to facilitate essential repair and rehabilitation work. The closure will begin at 5 am from the Howrah side and 6 am from the Kolkata side, as the Hooghly River Bridge Commission (HRBC) undertakes the replacement of stay and holding down cables and bearings.
The bridge will be reopened around 2 pm on the Kolkata side and 2.30 pm on the Howrah side.
To mitigate the impact on traffic, Kolkata Police have announced alternative routes for vehicles. Commuters traveling via AJC Bose Road can use Hastings crossing, St George's Gate Road, and Strand Road to reach Howrah bridge. Those coming from Kidderpore are advised to take 11 Furlong Gate, Hastings crossing, and Strand Road. Vehicles from Behala can proceed via Majerhat Bridge and Kidderpore, continuing on Strand Road to access Howrah bridge.
