Kolkata: Marking the beginning of the celebrations for the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, a grand Nagar Kirtan (Sikh religious procession) took place with around 20,000 devotees from Gurdwara Bara Sikh Sangat in Burrabazar to Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh in Baghmari.
Volunteers offered Sewa (selfless service), distributed sweets, fruits, tea, milk, and langar (community meal), transforming the city into a living expression of Guru Nanak's message: "Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vand Chakko (Meditate, Work Honestly, and Share with Others)."
Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, general secretary of Gurdwara Behala said, "It is heartening to witness the collective effort and devotion that transcends individual gurdwaras—culminating in grand celebrations on Nov 5 at various city gurdwaras along with Shahid Minar and a special congregation by the Sindhi community at Ramlila Grounds, Moulali."
Vikramjit Singh Sahney, MP (Rajya Sabha) remarked, "It was truly inspiring to see the message of Ik Onkar reflected on every face and every street of Kolkata today."TNN
