PIL in HC on release of B’desh, Pak, Af minorities

Kolkata: A prayer to file a PIL seeking the release of minorities from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, languishing in jails across the country, was made on Monday before the bench presided over by the Acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
Counsel for the petitioner said these people were still behind bars despite the notification from the Centre on Sept 1, 2025, stating that no criminal proceeding would be drawn up against minorities coming over to India from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
Acting Chief Justice Sujay Paul said the bench will decide on the hearing after the PIL was filed.
