India ‘most attractive investment destination’ due to its democracy: Om Birla

Kolkata: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Monday said that, barring a few periods, democracy in India had always been strong and ensured more citizens participate in the process. He said that democracy had made the country the most attractive investment destination globally.
"Barring a few periods, democracy was strengthened in India, starting from the first election in 1952 to the latest one in the country. More people participated in the electoral process, ensuring periodic regime changes," Birla said at the ‘India@100: An Age of A New Dawn' conclave, launching the 125th anniversary celebrations of the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.
"Democracy is deep-rooted in Indian culture. Whether it is somewhere in the rural area or in our social lives, we follow a democratic system through collective discourse," he said.
Birla said that industrialists from around the world are investing in India, making it the most attractive investment destination. "India's pace of development is reflected by the country's enormous human resources, along with rapid infrastructural progress and excellent road and rail connectivity," Birla said.
"Resources are abundant in India. The infrastructure, whether road, railways, or air, is expanding now. But India is the most attractive investment destination globally because of its democracy. If a country believes in democracy, its policies do not change fast. If the govt is strong, the country develops fast," Birla said.
