Sikkim Governor Meets PM Modi, Discusses Development and Infrastructure Ahead of Planned Visit
The Statesman | 5 November 2025
Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday, focusing their discussions on key developmental issues and infrastructure projects intended to accelerate the state’s growth. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed the meeting via a post on social media handle X.
The meeting assumes significance as it takes place ahead of the Prime Minister’s anticipated visit to Sikkim, where he is expected to inaugurate several projects.
The Governor’s visit follows a meeting last month between Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and the Prime Minister. Chief Minister Tamang’s discussion primarily centred on seeking central assistance for restoration efforts following the devastating floods and landslides that recently impacted the state. They specifically addressed the need to strengthen vital road connectivity, particularly National Highways NH-10 and NH-310A, which are crucial lifelines for Sikkim.
Furthermore, the chief minister had utilised his October meeting to renew an invitation for the Prime Minister to visit the state towards the end of November 2025. This invitation comes after a previously scheduled visit by the Prime Minister in May for the golden jubilee of statehood had to be cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions, with the event ultimately being inaugurated virtually.
The recent series of high-level meetings underscores the Centre’s and the state leadership’s focus on Sikkim’s development, infrastructure resilience, and disaster recovery in the wake of recent natural calamities.
