Governor, CM pay homage to Guru Nanak, Deshbandhu CR Das

West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday paid their tributes to Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, on his 556 birth anniversary, recalling his timeless teachings of peace, equality, and compassion.
Governor Bose, in a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan, highlighted the universal relevance of Guru Nanak’s message, which, he said, continues to illuminate humanity’s path even in the present age of turmoil and division. “Guru Nanak’s messages of spiritual growth, compassion, and justice transcend all boundaries and continue to inspire generations across the world,” the Governor observed, adding that the essence of the Guru’s teachings lies in harmony and service to mankind. He urged all citizens to draw strength from Guru Nanak’s vision of an inclusive society and work collectively to uphold the ideals of brotherhood and tolerance.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also extended her greetings on the occasion, describing Guru Nanak’s philosophy as a guiding light for humankind.“The eternal teachings of Guru Nanak Devji remind us of the values of love, equality and truth that hold society together,” she said in her message, urging people to uphold the ideals of peace and unity that he stood for. Meanwhile, the chief minister also paid homage to Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das on his birth anniversary, recalling his remarkable contribution to India’s struggle for freedom and his selfless service to the nation.
In her post on X, Miss Banerjee wrote, “On the birth anniversary of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, one of the pioneers of India’s independence movement, I convey my respectful salutations.” She described Deshbandhu as a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the cause of national unity and social justice, leaving an indelible mark on Bengal’s political and cultural consciousness. “Deshbandhu’s ideals of sacrifice, inclusiveness, and integrity continue to inspire generations. We remain indebted to his unwavering commitment to the nation and its people,” Banerjee added.
Political and social organisations across the state also observed the day with prayer meetings and floral tributes at statues and memorials of both Guru Nanak and Deshbandhu, reaffirming the state’s legacy of harmony and reverence for its spiritual and nationalist icons.
