Sukanta slams TMC for spreading false information on CAA camps

Union minister and BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the West Bengal government, accusing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being “anti-Hindu” and of “conspiring against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.”
Addressing a public gathering after inspecting a CAA assistance camp at Taherpur in Nadia district, Majumdar alleged that the government was deliberately spreading misinformation about the law. “The chief minister herself has conspired against the CAA,” he said, adding, “She tells people not to apply under the Act, claiming the BJP will send them to detention camps. This is a deliberate attempt to mislead Hindu refugees.” Majumdar said the CAA was meant to grant citizenship to Hindu refugees who fled religious persecution from Bangladesh and neighbouring countries. “This law gives citizenship — it doesn’t take anyone’s away,” he asserted.
Turning his attention to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls, the Balurghat MP alleged that Mamata Banerjee was using the process to target Hindu voters. “Through the SIR, the chief minister is hatching a deep conspiracy. The Election Commission of India is implementing it through the state machinery. Many officials working as EROs and BDOs are under state control,” he claimed. Majumdar urged BJP workers to remain vigilant during the revision process.
“In every booth, nearly 10-15 Hindu voters’ names are being struck off the rolls under the Trinamul’s direction, guided by their I-PAC team. Those whose names are missing from the voter list should apply under the CAA. The BJP will fight to ensure that no Hindu’s name is deleted,” he said. Assuring the crowd of the Centre’s support, Majumdar said: “Do not be afraid. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi stand beside you. We will fight till our last drop of blood to ensure that your names remain on the voters’ list. Who votes for the BJP – everyone knows. Those who wear tulsi beads, those who put vermilion — will they be sent to detention camps? If that happens, we will not remain in government.”
Recounting his own family’s migration, Majumdar said: “My grandfather came from Bogura so that my grandmother could light a lamp at the tulsi altar without fear. This land is sacred for Hindus; protecting Hindus means protecting Bharat itself.” Later in the day, the Union minister distributed citizenship certificates to individuals who had already received approval under the CAA. The BJP has recently intensified its CAA outreach across Bengal, organising camps at the mandal level to assist applicants. Meanwhile, a recent attack on Majumdar’s convoy during a visit to Nabadwip’s Ras Purnima celebrations, along with similar assaults on several BJP leaders in recent months, has heightened political tensions ahead of the polls.
