  • Kolkata: The total number of SIR enumeration forms crossed the three-crore mark on Friday. According to an EC official, "Over three crore enumeration forms were distributed in Bengal till 8 pm on Friday.

" Bengal has 7.6 crore voters.

The EC on Friday also made it clear that all BLOs should visit households for the exercise, instead of distributing enumeration forms sitting in a community hall or club in any booth area. "Any violation may lead to disciplinary actions," the commission said amid some cases where BLOs reportedly distributed forms sitting in a particular place.

"The incidents may be few, but the CEO has communicated to all DEOs (DMs) that they will have to visit every elector's doorstep to distribute and collect the form as mandated in the rules," the officer added.

The deputy commissioner of the ECI, Gyanesh Bharti, held a meeting at Jalpaiguri on Friday. Before leaving after the two-hour meeting, Dibyendu Das, assistant election commissioner, said the ECI was happy with the progress of SIR in Bengal. He assured that no legitimate voter will be left out from the final electoral roll. Asked about those who lost documents in the recent floods and landslides, Das assured that they will be given exemptions.
