Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to visit Siliguri on 10 November for a daylong trip and is expected to return to Kolkata the following day, 11 November.
Although an official confirmation is yet to be received from the Chief Minister’s Office, preparations have already begun at Uttarkanya to welcome her and make necessary arrangements for her visit.
According to administrative sources, the chief minister is likely to review the post-flood and landslide situation in the region, covering areas from the Darjeeling hills to Jalpaiguri, with a special focus on restoration and rehabilitation efforts.
Meanwhile, as news of her visit spread, speculation arose that Mamata Banerjee might meet star cricketer Richa Ghosh in Siliguri. However, sources clarified that Richa is expected to be felicitated in Kolkata soon in the presence of the chief minister and other distinguished personalities, including former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly.
According to sources, the state government has drawn up a special plan to offer Richa a prestigious job as part of the recognition for her outstanding achievement in women’s cricket.
