Abhishek launches ‘Sebashray 2’ in Diamond Harbour
The Statesman | 8 November 2025
After the overwhelming success of the first phase of Sebashray earlier this year, Diamond Harbour MP and Trinamul Congress (TMC) national general secretary and party’s second in command, Abhishek Banerjee on Friday announced the relaunch of the health outreach initiative.
Marking his birthday with a major public announcement, Banerjee said Sebashray 2 will begin on 1 December, and continue till 22 January in 2026, across all seven Assembly segments under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency. The health camps will culminate with a mega health camp from 25-30 January 2026, covering all Assembly segments of the constituency.
Taking to social media on his birthday, Banerjee wrote: “Guided by the principle of human service and the belief that healthcare is a basic right, I had initiated Sebashray. It brings me immense joy that people from every corner of Diamond Harbour, as well as other parts of Bengal, received free and quality healthcare through this initiative. Sebashray became a trusted centre of care and hope. I had promised that it would return — and now Sebashray 2 is set to begin once again in service of the people of Diamond Harbour.”
He added: “The camps will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, providing free medical consultations, diagnostic facilities, and medicines. This is not merely a political exercise, but a mission to extend healthcare to every individual in need.” According to the schedule announced by Banerjee, the Sebashray 2 health camps will be held in a phased manner.
The programme will conclude with the mega health camp between 25 January and 30, 2026, across all Assembly areas under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha seat. The Sebashray project was first launched by Banerjee in January 2025 and received widespread appreciation for providing free, high-quality medical services to thousands of people. Doctors, healthcare workers, and volunteers had participated in the first phase, offering general and specialist consultations, diagnostic tests, and medicines to underprivileged citizens. The initiative was praised as a model healthcare outreach effort, drawing attention even beyond Bengal. Political observers view the timing of Sebashray 2 as significant, coming ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. However, Banerjee has dismissed any political motive behind the move. “This is purely an initiative of public service,” he said. “Our only aim is to ensure that no person in Diamond Harbour remains deprived of healthcare due to economic hardship.”
TMC insiders said that based on the feedback from the first phase, the second edition will include enhanced medical infrastructure, more specialist doctors, and digital health records to ensure better patient follow-up. Each camp will also have sections for women’s health, child care, and preventive health awareness. With the ruling Trinamul Congress already positioning its welfare initiatives as a key plank ahead of the polls, Sebashray 2 is likely to further strengthen Abhishek Banerjee’s image as a grassroots leader committed to service and development in his constituency.
