  • Kolkata: One person was arrested from the Girish Park area on Saturday for allegedly duping Iskcon of Rs 2 crore in 2019 during a bulk purchase of religious books.

According to police, a few years ago, Iskcon had placed a large order for books, and the accused, Debraj Bhattacharya, was responsible for the supply. He allegedly delivered fewer books than ordered and used fake invoices to claim the full payment.

The fraud came to light during an internal audit, after which Iskcon filed a complaint at Shakespeare Sarani PS against Debraj and an associate. He had been absconding since 2019. tnn
