  • State Panchayat minister Pradip Majumdar has assured all support to the 41 persons from the Durgapur area
whose names are not on the portal of the Election Commission but were there in the 2002 voters’ list.

Many of these people are surprised to find that their their names are missing, though some of them have been voting since 1996 or even before in Durgapur.

All these persons reside in the B Zone area of Barati. Last evening, they met the new Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Durgapur,
    Suman Biswas, seeking a solution.

Minister Majumdar, who is the MLA from Durgapur East, alleged that the omissions were nothing
but a conspiracy of the BJP to delete the names of genuine voters through the SIR process from the list before next year’s Assembly elections.

“It is a sad situation. The BLAs, along with support from the TMC assistance cell, will help these voters to get their names back on the portal’s list. I have told the voters today and assured them all support,” Majumdar said.

SDM Biswas has told the 41 persons that there was no need to worry. The concerned BLO will take up the matter and the original documents will be verified and eventually submitted.

Lakhsman Ghorui, MLA of Durgapur West and BJP leader, also said that there is no need to panic. No voter whose names where there in the 2002 voters’ list will be deleted. The TMC is unnecessarily trying to create panic amongst the voters.
