• SpiceJet flight from Mumbai makes emergency landing in Kolkata after mid-air engine snag

  • A SpiceJet flight travelling from Mumbai to Kolkata made an emergency landing at the airport in the West Bengal capital late Sunday due to a technical issue with one of its engines while mid-air.

“The flight, SG670, was carrying more than 188 people (passengers and crew) and landed safely at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport around 11.38 pm. The pilot had declared a full emergency as a precaution,” said an official.

Reports suggest the pilot noticed the engine behaving abnormally just before starting the descent and informed Air Traffic Control (ATC). Emergency services at the Kolkata airport were put on high alert until the plane landed without incident.

Airport officials confirmed that all passengers and crew were safe, and the full emergency status was withdrawn immediately after the safe landing.

Sources indicate that the flight was significantly delayed, departing from Mumbai at 9:07 pm instead of its scheduled time of 7:10 pm — a nearly two-hour delay.

SpiceJet has not yet released an official statement on the incident.
