Kolkata: The All India Insurance Employees' Association (AIIEA) has threatened to launch a nationwide agitation against the Centre's proposed bill to increase the FDI in the country's insurance industry to 100% from the present 74%.
At a press conference here on Monday, AIIEA general secretary Shreekant Mishra said, "The govt plans to move a bill in the winter session of Parliament, seeking an increase in FDI in the insurance sector from the present 74% to 100%. This bill will transfer our country's assets to foreign hands."
"The govt also plans to further dilute 6.5% of its stake in LIC. We are opposed to it, as LIC is doing very well and earning a 16% profit. The govt's proposed move will transfer our insurance companies' ownership to foreigners, and they will take out the entire profit to their countries," said Mishra.
The AIIEA has also demanded the immediate commencement of recruitment for class-III and IV employees in LIC.
