  • Trinamul Congress MP Derek O’Brien Monday alleged that 17 deaths have occurred in Bengal in the name of “Silent Invisible Rigging” (SIR) over 14 days, questioning the credibility of the electoral process.

“17 deaths in 14 days in the name of Silent Invisible Rigging (SIR) in Bengal,” O’Brien said in a post on his WhatsApp channel, highlighting the issue.

O’Brien criticised the media for allegedly ignoring the issue, saying “The kind of stories the legacy media are too skittish to touch.” His comments come amid concerns about electoral transparency and allegations of manipulation in Bengal.

The TMC has long alleged that the BJP is using covert tactics to influence elections. O’Brien’s statement reflects the party’s efforts to raise awareness and mobilise support against perceived threats to democracy.

The second phase of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is in progress in 9 states and 3 Union Territories (UTs), covering approximately 51 crore voters.

The states involved in this phase are Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. The UT Union Territories include Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
