Kolkata: The black female dog, Poko, might be no more after being run over by a milk delivery truck on Sunday, but her litter has kept 23-year-old delivery agent Pranay Marick worried.
The resident of Madan Mitra Lane, who had been taking care of Poko for the past several months, said, "Poko has a litter of six puppies, three of them females. While I can adopt only one, due to my busy schedule, I have managed to convince two of my friends to adopt two others. However, there are still three that need to be adopted."
Marick told TOI that while several people had promised to adopt the puppies in the past 48 hours but none turned up until late Tuesday evening.
"A fast-food shop owner, though, has shown much interest in adopting a female. I am hoping he turns up at the earliest. The puppies require a lot of love, especially in the harsh winter," Marick said.
TOI reported on Tuesday how 52 CCTV cameras helped Girish Park cops track down the milk truck driver who ran over Poko. Two adjoining police stations and four traffic guards pitched in to accumulate data and pass it on to Girish Park cops in order to fix the ownership of the truck and the driver.
The driver was nabbed in less than three hours.
Marick told TOI he will not stop after filing the FIR against the driver. "The driver has orphaned six puppies. I saw the postmortem report that showed Poko's rib cage was crushed. I will ensure Poko and her litter receive justice," Marick said.
