• Released 62k so far to JU for security, state submits to HC

  • Kolkata: The state submitted a report to Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, stating that the govt has released some funds to enhance security at JU campus as ordered by HC. The state submitted that it allocated Rs 62,000 in the first instalment for installation of CCTV cameras on the campus, while the entire cost for such installation was estimated at Rs 68 lakh.

    The state also sanctioned provisions for the deployment of 32 security personnel from the State Sainik Board. The JU executive council would appoint them, and the expenses would be borne by the state.

    The state submitted that Kolkata Police (South Suburban Division), Jadavpur, and Bidhannagar Police would keep surveillance on JU campuses in Jadavpur and Salt Lake, as well as the hostels there. A deputy commissioner of the Kolkata Police (South Suburban Division) will monitor the surveillance.

    A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujay Paul and Justice Chaitali Chatterjee Das directed all parties to examine the state report and present their objections, if any, during the next hearing of the matter in the coming week. The division bench directed JU to file a report to Nov 18, stating what actions the it took after receiving thefunds from the state govt.
