Kolkata: The name of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation chairperson Sabyasachi Dutta and eight families from his DL Block row in Salt Lake are missing from the 2002 electoral roll.
Dutta has been a councillor since 1995 and also served as BMC mayor from 2015 to 2019.
Dutta, who was also the Rajarhat-New Town MLA in 2016, said that he contacted the Bidhannagar SDO and informed the North 24 Parganas DM about the matter. "I have been a councillor since 1995. How can it happen that my name is not on the 2002 electoral roll list?" Dutta asked.
"Also, there is no trace of those living in eight houses in the same row from DL 233 to DL 240 on the 2002 list.
It is a lacuna and gross negligence of the election commission," Dutta said. DL 239, where Dutta lives, was a part of the Belgachhia East assembly constituency in 2002. After delimitation, it came under the Bidhannagar Assembly constituency.
Bidhannagar SDO Suman Poddar said the matter had been communicated to the district election cell. "They have taken up the matter," he said. According to administrative sources, the missing addresses might have been mistakenly included in the supplementary part of another assembly constituency.
