Kolkata: A man was arrested on Monday morning outside the airport on charges of orchestrating a "CEO fraud" that led to the embezzlement of Rs 98 lakh. Accused Mohammad Salman Khan was sent to police custody for 10 days.
About two months ago, an accountant at a firm in the Shakespeare Sarani area received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number with the profile displaying the company CEO's photograph. The imposter instructed him to transfer Rs 98 lakh to an account, citing urgent business needs. The accountant reported the matter to cops after realising he had been duped.
The probe took a turn a month ago, with the arrest of Nitin Rajan in Chhattisgarh, who provided leads pointing to Khan. tnn
