Kolkata: A new modus operandi of snatching has been reported in the city where the accused pick up an argument with the victim on a flimsy ground, assault him and then snatch without the victim actually realizing the loss till the accused flee the spot.
An incident has been reported in the Girish Park area, where an advocate was attacked by four youths and later found that they had snatched his gold chain during the attack.
The incident occurred on Nov 8, around 10.15 pm, outside victim Partha Priya Chatterjee's home on Tarak Pramanick Road.
According to the complaint by Chatterjee, the altercation began when he noticed the group attempting to vandalize the rear-view mirror of a car belonging to his brother-in-law.
Chatterjee, who was returning from a nearby grocery store, told them to desist from their actions. This led to a verbal confrontation, during which the accused allegedly used abusive language and even threatened him. The youths then began physically assaulting Chatterjee.
He reported being pushed, punched, and even struck with a stick. As passersby intervened, the group fled.
Chatterjee managed to contact the Girish Park PS around 10.30 pm, prompting a cop patrol to reach the location. Despite inquiries, neither Chatterjee nor the bystanders could identify the attackers.
It was only upon returning home that Chatterjee realized his gold chain had been stolen during the scuffle. Two persons have beend etained for questioning.
